about

Ruhttuo which means Boreal Forest is Katarina Barruks second album.
The photos to the Art Work were taken in Barruk's childhood forest in Gajhrege. According to Katarina the species-rich forest can symbolise what she has tried to reach in the songs - how multifaceted life is to live for a human being.

Katarina Barruk is an artist who invites the public into a universe full of vulnerability and strength. With her special presence, she touches something that leaves the listener with cautious optimism and hope.

On the album "Ruhttuo" you can hear Umesami, which is on UNESCO's red list of endangered languages. Katarina combines song and joik from the Sami indigenous culture and develops the music in her own unique way. The songs are about being present in the moment, navigating as an indigenous person when her culture has been attempted to be eradicated. They also express her dreams and nostalgic retrospects from her upbringing in the forests of northern Sweden.
